Nurse Goodie Bags!

While I was pregnant with Surro Babe, I was thinking of ideas for Nurse Gifts. So I hopped on over to Pinterest and started searching for Nurse Goodie Bags. Oh Em Gee, I found some really cute ideas and couldn't wait to start mine!

I decided to pick things that I would like if I was a nurse. I also asked friends who worked in the hospital field. So, here is what I decided to put in the goodie bags!

Bottle of water
Hand Sanitizer
Luna Bar
Crystal Light Energy Powder Drink
Gum
Jolly Ranchers
Hershey Kisses
Breath Mints
Thank You Card

I purchased the bags (10 for $5) and Thank You Cards at Target. The String, Tags, Stickers, Stamp and Ink were purchased at Joanne’s Craft Store. Assembling them was a breeze and they looked really cute!

I decided to add a few things to my Photographer, Midwife Friend and Case Managers Bags!

Bottle of Water
Crystal Light Energy Powder Drink
Lindor Truffles
Chocolate
Jurgens Lotion
Tissue
Milano Cookies
Hand Sanitizer
EOS Lip Balm
Thank You Card

I made 15 bags to take to the hospital, 3 for my friends, 6 for L&D Nurses and 6 for Postpartum Nurses. I had my husband put them on the counter in my room and let every nurse that came into my room and helped us, could grab a bag! I’m not gonna lie, the nurses that came into my room and were a part of this day were incredible! It could have been from the goodies, but either way, they were so caring and that made our day that much sweeter! My Postpartum Nurses were very grateful also. From what I heard, they always get left out. I wanted to make them feel appreciated too! I wish I would have thought of this when I was pregnant with my own kids!

I purchased the hand sanitizer, mints, gum and tissue in the Travel section of Target. The Luna Bars were 6 packs and were on sale. Milano Cookies were a BOGO! The candy was on sale because of Easter!

The birth story of my Surro Babe!

**Copied from my Surrogacy Blog**

It’s hard to believe that I delivered my Surro Babe 1 week ago, thursday! It was such an amazing experience and I can’t wait to do it again for another couple!

On Wednesday, I had my 39 week appointment. My dr was across the street with a delivery, so I had to wait about 20 minutes. Once she was in the office, she did the usual measuring and listened to the heartbeat. Afterwards, my IP’s went out into the waiting room and my dr checked me. I was between 3-4cm and about 60% effaced. She also swept my membranes. After that, I went into the waiting room with my IP’s while she was deciding on what day was good since I was starting to show signs of Pre-E. They called me up and told me it was going to be the next day! I was shocked, excited and nervous all at the same time. My IP’s got really nervous also! The nurse told me to call in the morning to see if they had a bed for me and then to go in! I called my husband, case manager and photographer and told them that tomorrow would be the big day! After getting home, I got the rest of my bag packed and checked off the last bit of stuff on my to-do list. That night, I slept wonderfully! I thought I would be a ball of nerves, but I was surprisingly calm!

Thursday morning I got up, took a shower and helped my husband get the kids off to school just like a normal day. I called L&D at 7am and they had a bed for me!! So it was a go! I had to be there at 8am for my induction. Since I knew that my husband was coming up, I only brought my purse and Nurse Goody Bags. Once I got up to the L&D Desk, they were ready for me. Once they found out that I was a surrogate, everyone was so excited for everyone involved. My nurse was absolutely amazing and I was so grateful I got a good one!! Once I got settled in, my IP’s arrived but had to leave again.

My husband, son and mom arrived right before they left. They started my iv at 10am and Pitocin soon after. My contractions were moving along about 2-3 minutes apart. They were starting to get pretty intense, so I decided to get some pain meds through my iv. After that, things were pretty good for about an hour. During that time, my dr came in and checked to see how I was doing and then left to do her rounds. Around 3pm, I got another bump of my pain meds and had the nurse check me. I never liked being checked, it’s so painful! I was only a good 4cm and about 70%. I felt pretty defeated since I was having some good contractions for about 3 hours. My IM prayed for a good 2 hours and then took a nap.

At 3:30pm my nurse told me that my dr was going to come in between 4-5pm to break my water. I got really nervous and had been debating on whether or not I wanted to get an epidural. I had horrible experiences with my epidural for my 1st and 3rd birth. Finally I told my nurse I wanted one before I had my water broken. So they pumped 3 bags of fluid in me and around 4pm the Epi Cart was in my room. When the anesthesiologist came in, I got really nervous. While he was doing my epidural, I was just concentrating on my breathing and tried to go into a happy place. I just kept telling myself that everything will be okay. Once I got laid back down, I was feeling a lot better. Everyone came back in and we chatted for about 15 minutes and then my dr came in and kicked everyone out so she could break my water.

After she broke my water, I went from 4cm to 6cm. The contractions were rolling in and I could feel that this was going to happen soon! My dr kept checking me during contractions and within a 10 minute period, I went from 6cm to 9cm and 100%. It was go time! I was trying to breathe through the contractions while my dr and nurses were getting things ready. After the bed was set up, they let my husband and IP’s in, that way they could get into position. They then let my case manager and photographer in the room and got them into position. I gave 2 good pushes and out popped baby C’s head. I looked over at my IM and she was smiling from ear to ear. One more good push and out came a tiny 5lb 6oz peanut! I couldn’t get over how small she was! She was over a pound smaller than my tiniest baby. I looked around and there were tears in almost everyone’s eyes. My IF got to cut the cord and after Baby C got cleaned up, my IM got to do skin to skin. At that moment in time, everything was so calm and peaceful. I looked at my husband and he was already updating everyone. I told him to call my friend to come and pick up my placenta. My nurse came up to me and said that this day will forever hold a special place in her heart and that she was so glad that she was able to be a part of this. That definitely made my day!

After delivery, everything went so smoothly. My IM brought Baby C over to me and I got to hold her. To be completely honest, I had no idea how I would feel holding her. I knew everything would be fine, but there was always that “what if” in the back of my mind. Once I had Baby C in my hands, it was like I was holding a friends baby! After everything calmed down, my IP’s went to their private room to start their new lives with their baby girl and I stayed in my room until I got feeling in my legs enough to walk to the bathroom. Once I was able to walk to the bathroom, I was on my way to my private room. After I got settled into my room, my friends came over and we all went to see Baby C. I got a few pictures with her and then it was off to bed for me. I was completely exhausted. The next morning I had a few visitors and my boys got to see Baby C. They were okay with looking at her, but they didn’t want to touch her haha.

At around 3:30 I was being discharged and was so excited to be heading home to MY babies. I missed them so much during my 36 hour stay. So far, my recovery has been pretty good. My milk is finally coming in and my boobs are hurting. I know that will pass soon. Emotionally, I am doing pretty well. I have this overwhelming joy come over me whenever I think of what I did! I can’t wait until I am back to normal 100% and just focusing on my kids and family.

Lately...

Things have been pretty busy this whole summer..

The kids are doing great and have had a great summer with a bunch of fun playdates and birthdays! DJ and Reagan start school in EIGHT Days!!! It's completely crazy that I will have a Kindergartner and a First Grader! DJ is more than ready for school to start so he can see his friends! Reagan is excited but she is also very nervous since she is really shy. DJ and Reagan both got bikes for their birthdays and have been riding them non stop! It took DJ 20 minutes to learn how to ride a bike without his training wheels or Stabilizers as DJ puts it! Reagan, not so much... She will need a little more practice :)

Both DJ and Reagan have started Practice for Football & Cheer! They are both loving it! Reagan is both the youngest and the tiniest one out there. It takes her a little longer to get the cheers down, but she is not giving up! She is such a trooper out there! DJ is having a blast and is one of the fastest kids out there! They are so excited!!

Allen is a crazy 2 1/2 year old and is getting into everything! A few weeks ago, Allen and DJ crashed their bikes into each other and Allen got a chipped tooth and bruised gums. I called his dentist and they said that if he is not having trouble eating or is not in any pain, not to worry about bringing him into the office until his appt. The day of the appt, I was helping Allen brush his teeth and I noticed that the tooth under the bruised gums was turning grey :( So I took him in on Friday and he was such a trooper. He loves the dentist! Well, after the dentist came in and looked at his teeth, it was confirmed that his front tooth was dead :( We are now being referred to a pediatric dentist. Poor little guy...

Also....

With my Surrogacy Updates...

I had my transfer on 7/28 and had a positive hpt at just 5dpt!!! So that means that My IP's are going to be PARENTS!!!!! I am beyond excited for them! I go in for my betas on Friday!!!

Happy Hump Day!!!

It's almost time!!!

{From my Surro Blog}

WOW!!!

I can't believe that it's almost time to head down to la! In exactly two weeks, I will hopefully be at my fertility clinic getting ready to have 2 embryos transferred!! It's been a long time coming and I am so excited, nervous, anxious and ready for this day to get here!!

I had my first of many labs last Tuesday to measure my progesterone & estradiol levels. My estradiol was 15 and progesterone was 0.7. So both numbers were great! I've taken 2 delestrogen IM injections and have my second set of labs today and should get the results today :)

Dave and I like to talk to the kids about our IP's and why Mommy has been giving herself shots everyday. They know who they are if we show them their picture. They said that they can't wait to meet them and their baby :)

Sorry for not updating, my laptop is still broke and we've been so busy... Plus i'm on my phone doing this!

So there ya have it!!! Less than 2 weeks away!!

Oh, hello june..

How in the world is it almost JUNE?!?

This year is in the fast lane and I don't think its gonna slow down any time soon. These next 2 months are going to be crazy busy! We have so much going on in June and July, I am sure I will fall off of the blogging wagon a few times.. lol

Lets see, First off, Miss Reagan is graduating Preschool on the 5th! I can't believe that she will be going into kindergarten in the fall. She has grown into such a beautiful little girl and I can't wait to watch her soar in school!

Second, We have DJ's Sixth Birthday... Hold on, let me read that again... Yes, my first born will be Six years old on the 18th. We are having a Super Mario Theme Party at a local pizza place. He is really into Super Mario Bros and wants everything in that theme! We have invited a bunch of friends from school and I can't wait to party it up!

Third, I will be starting all of my IVF Meds within the next two weeks. My cycle should be starting soon {is that tmi for you?!} and on CD2 I will start taking my BCP's :) After 5 different types of prenatals, I have finally found ones that don't make me sick! Lucky number six I guess.. So during all of this crazyness, I will be giving myself 1-2 shots a day for the month of june and until our transfer which will more than likely be the 1st week of july. After the transfer, I will have to continue the PIO shots until I am 12 weeks pregnant.. Human Pin Cushion right here...

July is busy because we will have the Transfer!!! I will fly down to LA and be there for a few days.

Miss Reagan will be turning FIVE on the 22nd of July. Holy Crap, where is the time going?? She wants a Lalaloopsy Theme Party! She is turning into a little sassy pants! She wants to invite all of her gal pals from school and have a fun girly party!

Things will be a little slow here... Our laptop broke and we have to send it in. Thankfully my dad is letting me use his today :)

Surrogacy Update: Moving Forward!

{Copied from my Surrogacy Blog}

Yesterday, I flew to LA for my Re-Evaluation :)

I got to the airport around 6:45a and my flight didn't leave until 8:10a. So I walked around and tried to calm my nerves :) I got a sweet email from my IP's the night before saying to relax and have a nice time. It made me feel better!

Once I got to LAX, my Caseworker picked me up and we headed to CFP. We got there around 10:45 and my appt wasn't until 11:30, so we were able to check in early and I went back for blood work and urine test. I have a pretty little bruise now... At around 11:15 I was called back to the room and was told to get undressed from my waist down. About 5 minutes later, the nurse came in and told me that I needed to get weighed. I wrapped a blanket around me and I went to get weighed. I'm not back into the room 5 minutes and she comes back in and says "You're gonna hate me. We have to go and get your height now.." I just laughed..

{In Surro Land, this is known as the Weenie Wand}

After all of that, my Dr came in and we chatted. He was very happy with my weight loss {YAY!!!}. We talked a little and then he started the Sonohysterogram. This time I didn't really cramp! He said that my lining is absolutely perfect and that I need to start taking Prenatals. So I have finally finished all of the screening and can now move to CONTRACTS!!!! We just have to wait for all of the blood work from dave/myself to come back. That should only take about 5-7 days.

It was now off to see the nurse for my Meds!!! I got a bag full of Prenatal Samples. The one that everyone likes was gone, so she is going to order me some! I was told that I will be taking Birth Control Pills {BCP's}, Lupron, Estradiol {Delestrogen} & Progesterone. So once I start my cycle/period {CD1}, I need to call her and I will start BCP's on CD2. After that I will begin the Lupron Shots for 7 days. Then its the Estradiol Shots every 3 days. Then I do Labs & u/s of my lining. Then its on to Progesterone. I am so confused but my nurse is amazing and is going to send me detailed instructions for everything along with my calendar!!

I am so excited that things are moving!!!!!

I'm not Crazy!

{Copied this from my Surro Blog}

Yesterday Dave and I hauled ass drove safely to San Francisco to meet with our Psychologist and take my PAI Test! Traffic was a complete mess but thank god for the carpool lanes! I may have use the carpool lane in the bay area when it was 3+, but time was of the essence and we needed to get to our appt on time! We were supposed to be at our appt by 10:15. We pulled up to the Valet at 10:00.. Bam!

{This is the only picture Dave got... Thanks Hubs.}

We got up to the office and let them know that we were there for a 10:30 appt. First off, some of those questions were really weird! I had to go into a little room where the receptionist put a laptop in front of me so I could take the test... Some of the questions were:

- I contemplate Suicide on a daily basis...
Umm No!

- I don't like getting ads in the mail...
Umm Yes! I freaking hate ads cluttering up my mail box!

- I often feel like a Loner...
Uh Nope! I'm a social butterfly and love all of my friends!

- My favorite Poet is Leonard Whatsoever..
Umm Who?!

After my testing, I went back out into the waiting room with Dave. A few minutes later we were called back to talk to our Psychiatrist. She was really nice and made us feel comfortable. Se asked both Dave and I questions about our decision to proceed with our Surrogacy Journey and some more private questions.

After all of that, she let me know that I had PASSED the PAI Test and that I am Not Crazy! hahaha

So the Psych Eval is checked off our To Do List!!!

Still To Do:

- LA for my Re-Evaluation with Dr. R
- Contracts!
- Schedule Transfer!!!!!

Misc Monday...

Things have been so busy lately, I haven’t really had any time to really sit down and throw together a blog post. I know, * tisk tisk * I have been dealing with allergies that have turned into head colds, DJ’s Jog-A-Thon, New IP’s and everything in between.

Last Sunday I had a luncheon with the director of my agency and a few local surros! I love getting together with them. I also got an amazing and thoughtful delivery from my agency on Tuesday!

My Gramma got into town on Thursday night. She will be on the west coast for about a month. My cousin graduates college in a few weeks and she will be driving to Oregon to attend.

DJ had his Jog-A-Thon on Friday. He ran 21 laps and had a lot of fun! His goal was to get at least $100 in Sponsor Pledges, that way he could attend the school Pizza Party… Well, this little stud muffin raised $200 in Sponsor Pledges!!! He was very proud of himself!

Since our first set of IP’s backed out 2 weeks ago, we received a new IP Profile on Friday! After I looked at it, I sent it to Dave. We both agreed that we would love to go forward with them! I have such a different feeling with them. A sense of calmness and I now know that this was meant to be! I am now just waiting for my caseworker to email/call me with a date for our big conference call! Surrogacy Blog!

Today is Dave’s last day at his current job! He starts his new job tomorrow! Better Hours, Better Pay, Room to Grow! All in all, it is the perfect decision. We are very excited!

{my hair 2 years ago...}

I have had the biggest urge to cut my hair, but I want to grow it out. I do need a trim though! Maybe I just need a little change, like a different color… I don’t want to go too crazy.

I guess that’s it for me…

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

New...

So, if you follow my Surrogacy Blog, then you know what is going on... If you don't follow, I will fill you in.  Our IP's have decided to back out and try to have a baby on their own again. So that means that we are starting back at square one. Our profile is back to Active and we are now waiting to get matched again. My caseworker has been sending our profile out to couples, so I am praying that we are matched soon!

Since I have lost over 20lbs, I decided that it was time to put new family pictures in our profile :) So we went over to my dads yesterday before my luncheon with my surrogacy group.

Here is the first picture we sent in:

And here are the ones that we took yesterday!!

Hopefully we hear something soon!
